"The Rainforest Journey" by Michael
I was on a plane to Florida when an alarm went off! The pilot said on the loudspeaker, “Everybody please stay calm. The plane has run out of fuel. Please go to the exits. Rafts will inflate automatically.” I jumped out of an exit. I didn’t even realize I was in a raft. I could barely breathe. Then, I blacked out.
I woke up and saw giant trees reaching up into the clouds. I got up and looked around. Wow! This place was full of life. It was very damp and hot too. Birds and animals were everywhere. The trees were as tall as giants. I thought about what I learned in school and realized I was in the AMAZON RAINFOREST!
I started walking through the rainforest. I had to push through vines and bushes. I walked until I saw a cave in front of me. I decided to live there so I got a lot of vines and leaves. Then I found lots of big heavy rocks. Next, I got a big stick and used it to push mud to the cave entrance. I wrapped vines around the rocks. Then I put the rocks in front of the cave entrance and connected them with mud. With the rest of the vines, I made a ladder. I tied both ends to rocks and threw one into the opening on the top. Now that my shelter was safe, I decided to go eat and drink. First, I tied multiple vines together. Then I tied one end to a tree and held the other one so I wouldn’t get lost. I started exploring the rainforest. First stop was the river. I sipped the lovely cool water and it gave me strength so I continued on. I found a small mango tree and threw a rock at one of the branches until a mango fell to the ground. I bit into the lovely fruit and the juice flowed down my throat. It was time to go back so I took some leaf litter into my cave and put it on the floor. Then I fell asleep.
I woke up because there was a terrible noise like animals fighting. I looked out and saw a gorilla attacking a leopard! Even though the leopard was smaller than the gorilla, he was better at fighting and hunting. The leopard had wounds too, but less than the gorilla. The gorilla ran away but the leopard stayed. He had a broken paw so he couldn’t walk or run. I helped him heal by wrapping his wound in leaf litter and vines to make a bandage. After that we hunted together. I named him Liri. Together we made a great team.
The next day, I thought about getting home. Liri and I started walking out of the rainforest. It didn’t take long until we came to a village. I went to a house and told the person my story. He called the police and they took me to the airport. We first put Liri in a giant box and gave him three pieces of meat. Then we told Liri to be quiet or sleep. We put the box in the cargo area and got on ourselves. I went for free with the police officer because I was lost. When the plane landed we went to get Liri. He was asleep so we just took his box into a taxi and took it to my house. I knocked on the door and my mom opened it. I hugged her. The police officer took Liri to the zoo where I could visit him. I was so glad to be back home!
