"Lily in the Rainforest" by Lily
Crash! Where am I? Help! Someone please! Wow, how will I find my way home? AAAHHH! A jaguar started chasing me! I ran as fast as I could. The jaguar was 6 inches away from me and I was 99% sure I twisted my ankle twice, one time on each foot. I started feeling raindrops dripping down my head, but I didn’t mind because I was so hot. Finally, I found a canoe. I brought it to a river and I jumped in. I was so tired after being chased by the jaguar. Let me tell you how I got here. I was on my way to Venezuela when I heard the pilot say “Hello. It’s your pilot speaking. We’re crash landing! Please grab the life jacket from under your seat.” I was going to be the first one to jump out of the plane. Everyone else was still putting on their life jackets. The plane was about to crash. I jumped out and turned around. No one was there so I assumed they hadn’t jumped out yet. The next thing I knew, the plane crashed and no one else survived. That's how I got here and how this whole adventure began.
I got out of the canoe and stepped back. All of a sudden I saw something pink flowing through the river. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was a pink dolphin! Before I could move in for a closer look, I saw a royal blue macaw taking the lead in a race with a rose red macaw. While I was admiring the race, I heard screeching from the treetops and hissing from the tree vines. My socks and shoes were getting soaked.
I knew I would have to try to find a dry place to stay until I could get home to Brooklyn, New York. I looked around to try to find something to build a shelter. I spotted a tree and some twigs and I got to work. Once I was done, I started looking for food and water. I found a mango in a tree. It was the sweetest and juiciest fruit I ever had. I looked at the river and went to get some water.
While I was getting the water, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a toucan. She was an adorable baby. I started to follow her. When I was getting close to her, she flew onto my shoulder. Her beak was as colorful as a rainbow. The rest of her body was an elegant black. Her eyes were a gorgeous blue. She wouldn’t leave my shoulder so I named her Ruby and I continued to walk.
After a couple of hours, I saw a city. I started walking towards it. I saw a store. I walked in and asked the person at the register if I could borrow their phone. The person said yes and I called my parents. They came to get me and they said I could keep Ruby. On the way home we got Ruby a birdcage to hang in my room. Then we went home. When I got back home, I went straight to bed.
