"The Awesome Rainforest" by Ava
I was on a ship with my friend Stacia and her aunt. We were headed to a Caribbean beach vacation. I found this really cool map and I showed it to Stacia. Stacia said, “This looks like an old map that somebody left on here. I want to go to the Caribbean beach!”
So I brought the map to the captain of the ship. I showed him and said, “Don’t tell anybody, but I found this map on your ship and I want you to bring me here.”
He said, “It sounds like a plan.”
Before I knew it we were in the Amazon Rainforest. I was so excited to be here, but Stacia complained to her aunt and uncle. I said, “It’s not that bad, what if we explore it?”
But Stacia made a face, stomped, whined, and said, “I only want to go to the Caribbean beach.”
So the captain left me off in the Amazon Rainforest and Stacia and her family went to Caribbean beach.
In the rainforest I saw light on the top part of the tree. I saw the ears of a jaguar in a tree. I saw feathers from birds. I heard macaws chirping. I heard animals like cheetahs roaring and growling. I felt moist and hot. I felt the prickly texture of bromeliads. I felt excited, but scared in the rainforest.
I got food by climbing the trees for fruit. I got water by going to the river. I used twigs and leaves to make a cup. I made shelter by putting leaves and twigs together to make a little cave for myself. I looked on the floor and found a sharp tooth. I picked it up and started chopping down a tree. A big chunk fell off and I started building a bed. I didn’t know how to stick it together so I stacked them on top of each other. Then I put leaves on top for a blanket. After I did that I went to explore.
I followed behind a jaguar since I was trying to get an awesome close-up shot for an animal picture collection. I tip-toed very quietly so the jaguar wouldn’t hear me. Suddenly, I stepped on a leaf. The jaguar heard the crunching leaves and turned around! I ran as fast as I could, but he caught up to me and started scratching me with his sharp claws. I was nervous and I was shaking. Luckily, an armadillo walked by and distracted the jaguar. The jaguar stopped and went after the armadillo. I ran away as fast as I could and hid behind some bushes so he could not find me.
I crawled through bushes until I got to the Amazon River. I waited very quietly to see if the captain of the ship came back. I waited two hours and suddenly the ship came back. I hopped inside the ship. The captain brought me to the Caribbean beach where my parents were waiting for me. I learned my lesson. I would never follow mystery maps ever again.
